The catastrophic 2003 forest fires in Kelowna, BC wrecked havoc on the infamous Gillard mountain bike trails. Over the past ten years, the road to recovery has been long and extensive, as the local mountain bike community has come together to help rebuild this once legendary trail network. The destruction of the fire left the trails littered with logs and debris and also burned the majority of the wooden stunts that had been installed.
Located in the mid-western region of the United States, Moab, Utah is home to some of the best mountain biking available. The extensive trail network features breathtaking geographical challenges such as petrified sand dunes, slick rock terrain and steep technical ridges. The difficulty in riding is predominantly intermediate to technically advanced, although there are some less challenging trails that are more suitable for novice riders. The majority of advanced technical trails offer a high-speed downhill experience, littered with jumps, rock drops, tight single tracks and ledges.

Sixteen year old Kelowna rider, Tom van Steenbergen, is poised to have a breakout year, starting with the FMB World Tour. Prior to last season, this young and very skilled rider made the decision to switch from primarily racing downhill, to compete in slope style events. One of Tom’s biggest achievements last year was taking home best trick in Kokanee Crankworx. Tom threw down a massive front flip tuck no hander and took the top prize with ease. Tom is going back at it this season with high hopes for a solid year.
