After a huge weekend for slopestyle riders at Red Bull Joyride last weekend, the next FMB Diamond stop is already around the corner. Hosted by freeride legend Darren Berrecloth, the 2014 Bearclaw Invitational is coming up on August 22nd and 23rd on the slopes of Mount Washington. Below is a recap video of last year's event.
On August 21st, Cam Zink will attempt to set the record for the world's biggest backflip (dirt take-off to dirt landing) on a mountain bike. The 100 foot backflip attempt at Mammoth Mountain is airing live on ESPN so you can catch all the action live at 9:30pm EST. He's already practiced the jump into a giant airbag and everything seems to be in place for Cam to once again raise the bar on what's possible on a bike.
The Dreamland dirt jumps in Kelowna, BC have been the training ground for many Okanagan Valley riders like Casey Groves and Tom and Bas van Steenbergen, and they've been well documented in numerous articles and videos. The massive double jumps and drops have seen huge tricks like front flip tuck-no handers, 360 bar spins, and the famous drop-in front flip that had viewers' jaws on the ground. The locals have spent countless hours building and shaping the jumps, and after a short hiatus, they've been brought back to life.
Kicking Horse Bike Park is located just outside of Golden, B.C. and offers 3700 feet of incredible riding that includes berms, wooden stunts, rock slabs, jumps and other features ranging from beginner to expert. With over 30 downhill trails to offer, Kicking Horse is a lesser-known riding destination that should be on you bucket list this season. Here's a GoPro video of one of the technical black diamond run, Blaster.
