XTR MT905 Rotors Now Available

The pinnacle in mountain bike braking, XTR RT-MT905 6-bolt disc brake rotors are now available in both 180mm and 203mm. Prior to the launch of these new rotors, Shimano's Ice Tech FREEZA rotor technology had only been available for center-lock hubs. Find out more about these new rotors below:

With the addition of the Ice Tech Freeza technology it extends the central piece of aluminum out to form fins that extend inwards towards the middle of the rotor. Shimano says that with the addition of this technology riders won't have to up-size their rotor, or switch to heavier/thicker rotors to try to avoid excessive heat build up. The Ice Tech Freeza technology builds off the original Ice Technology, which is a thin layer of aluminum sandwiched by the stainless steel braking surface, which helps keep temperatures down.

As a result of this technology, the 203mm RT-MT905 operates 100°C cooler compared with a 220mm stainless steel disc brake rotor under the most extreme conditions with a more compact design. The dramatically lower surface temperature improves braking performance and consistency (less fade) while reducing system noise and extending pad life. These rotors have been proven to work by some of the top athletes in the sport. Greg Minnaar, the 2021 DH Wold Champion used these rotors during that racing season. With Shimano bringing this technology to the 6-bolt standard, more riders will now benefit. Riders of 6-bolt hub wheelsets (popular for enduro and downhill) can now benefit from these new rotors.
