60TPI vs. 120TPI MTB Tires: When looking to buy a mountain bike tire there are many options that can make it difficult when trying to choose the right one. We’ve decided to compare the differences of 60TPI and 120TPI tires in the following article to make it a little easier.

Threads Per Inch (TPI)

TPI refers to the number of threads per inch in the tire’s casing. Mountain bike tire casings are the structural layers that make up the body of the tire. As a result, casing construction can affect the weight, rolling resistance, damping, reliability and grip of a tire. The most common TPI ranges for MTB tires are 60TPI and 120TPI. Higher TPI generally indicates a more supple and lightweight tire construction. 60 TPI tires have fewer threads per inch compared to 120 TPI tires, making them less supple and usually heavier.

Ride Quality

120 TPI tires typically offer a smoother and more responsive ride due to their higher thread count. They conform better to the terrain, providing improved traction and handling.

60 TPI tires may feel stiffer and less responsive on the trail. They might not absorb bumps and vibrations as effectively as higher TPI tires.

Durability
