Maxxis Drops the Wide Trail “WT” Label

If you’ve been checking out Maxxis tires lately, you might’ve noticed something missing — that small “WT” (Wide Trail) printed on the sidewalls. Don’t worry, Maxxis hasn’t changed the tires themselves. They’ve just decided it’s time to drop the label. Here’s what’s actually going on.

What’s Changing

Maxxis has officially discontinued the “WT” (Wide Trail) designation on their mountain bike tires.
This means:

  • You’ll start seeing the same popular tires (like the DHF, DHR II, Dissector, and Assegai) without the WT stamp on the sidewall.

  • The construction, tread, and performance are 100% identical to the WT versions.

  • The change is purely cosmetic — no compound or casing tweaks were made.

So, if you’re running Maxxis WT tires now and love them, the “new” versions will perform exactly the same.

Why Maxxis Is Dropping WT

Back when 30–35mm internal width rims became popular, Maxxis introduced the “Wide Trail” label to help riders pick tires that were optimized for those wider rims.
Fast-forward to 2025 — that’s now the standard. Nearly every modern trail, enduro, and downhill bike uses rims in that range. So, marking them as “Wide Trail” doesn’t make much sense anymore.

In short: Maxxis WT tires aren’t gone — they’re just all WT now.

What It Means for Your Setup

  • All Maxxis 2.40” and 2.50” tires that used to be WT are still designed around 30–35mm internal rim widths.

  • If your rims fall in that range (which most modern bikes do), you’re good to go.

  • If you’re still running narrower rims (25mm or less), expect a slightly more rounded profile — same as before when you mounted a WT tire.

The Bottom Line

This is simply a branding cleanup, not a product change. You’ll still get the same legendary Maxxis grip, cornering confidence, and reliability — just without the “WT” printed on the side.

No need to second-guess your setup or search for old stock. If you see a Maxxis 2.40” or 2.50” tire at TBS Bike Parts without “WT” on the sidewall, you can be sure it’s the same tire you know and trust.
